Home Learning — Thank you!

Today is the final day of home learning! I am tremendously grateful for the hard work of 2A during at home learning. Bravo! Pat yourselves on the back! Thank you for your dedicated efforts.

A Goodbye Poem

I'm glad I was your child's teacher
I've come to love them so
I can't believe the end is here
I hate to see them go

I've watched them learn and grow
And change from day to day
I hope that all the things we've done
Have helped in some small way

So it's with happy memories that
I send them off to enjoy the summer
With great hope and expectations
That they will never lose their sense of wonder

I'll remember all the fun we had
In all the things we did,
But most of all I'll remember...
They're very special kids!

In Summer” Song

This is my final blog post for the 2019-2020 school year.

All the best to everyone as we enjoy a beautiful PEI summer!

Hi Everyone,

Happy Tuesday! Only 4 more days of home learning to go. Let’s finish strong!

If you would like your child to attend an in-school learning session this week, please let me know no later than this evening. The times are Wednesday (8:30a.m.-9:30a.m) or Friday (10:00a.m.-11:00a.m)

End of Year Celebration Gatherings

  • Gatherings will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 23rd.
  • Students have been asked to participate in either the 12:00p.m or the 2:00pm session.
  • Each gathering lasts 60 minutes.
  • Please reference this week’s parent message in Google Classroom for the time your child is to attend. The students have been divided equally into two groups of 12.
  • Parents are encouraged to have conversations with their children about the importance of social distancing. Students need to maintain a distance of 2 meters or 6 feet from one another.
  • Students may wear masks but they are not required to.
  • Grade 2 children are asked to enter and exit the building using the main doors.
  • Mrs. Dodds will greet parents/children at the door and then students will proceed to 2A. I will greet them in our classroom.
  • Since the water fountains at the school are closed, students are encouraged to take water bottles from home.
  • Attendance is optional. Although I would love to see every child, I understand that some may not be able to come. If this is the case, please contact with me as soon as possible.
  • If a child can not attend, his/her learning report can be picked up in the office during the week of June 22-26.

Hi Everyone,

I am delighted that 14 students are attending learning sessions this week. Not only is this a great way to reinforce some academic skills but, it is also an excellent chance for them to connect with peers.

News From Epic Books For Kids: Free Summer Reading Access

I want to share a reply email I received. As this is a fantastic summer reading opportunity, I’ve sent an email invitation to every parent who hasn’t already signed up for remote access.

Hello Carla,

Thank you for reaching out and for your kind patience during this unprecedented busy time for us.

We have great news! Starting July 1st, all families who have signed up for Remote Student Access through an email invitation from you will be able to enjoy a brand-new service, Epic Free, which includes 2 hours of free reading per week in a limited library of high-quality, educational books.

There is nothing more that you or your families need to do — RSA family accounts will automatically transition to Epic Free on July 1, allowing them to keep reading on Epic through the summer and beyond.

Thank you again for your dedication to your students. Enjoy a well-deserved summer break!

Best Regards,
James

Hi Everyone,

I hope that you had a great start to the week. Hopefully the rest of the week will have nicer weather!

Fall Education Survey From DELL

We were recently emailed a survey about home learning. In case you didn’t have time to complete it, please read the following:

With the appearance of COVID-19 in PEI, our school system was forced to act quickly to provide online, home-based learning. Many people worked diligently to meet the challenge to deliver education online to an entire K to 12 system.

Now that we have had three months experience in this new world of education, it is appropriate to reflect on what has worked well and what has not, to help us prepare for the future.

Through this survey, we are seeking input from parents, teachers and administrators on key issues such as student access to technology and the internet; student comfort and confidence levels with home learning; communication among teachers, students and parents; and concerns about child care.

Your participation in the survey is important and very much appreciated. Results will be used only to identify the strengths and challenges of the home learning experience.

• The survey takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
• Your responses are anonymous and confidential. There is no way to see your name or email address.
• Results go directly to survey coordinators at the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning and are recorded on a secure site.
• The survey will close at 4 PM on Friday, June 12, 2020.

In-School Support

So far I have 10 students signed up to attend learning sessions this week. If you would like your child to participate, please text me as soon as possible as I need to arrange staggered drop off/pick up times.

Social Distancing Rules

As children come back together inside our school, please continue to remind them that we must social distance by 2 meters/6 feet. Understandably, in the excitement of seeing classmates, they often forget that they have to stay apart. I have uploaded 2 song videos for students to watch.

Until tomorrow,

Mrs. Callaghan
