Hi Everyone,

Happy Thursday! It is a beautiful lovely day. I am excited to be meeting with 9 students tomorrow morning to work on 2-digit addition and subtraction. A reminder that if your child is attending one of the sessions, please arrive at the designated time that has been given.

Yesterday was a bit of a wacky day as I was without internet. A falling tree damaged one the the lines that runs service into our house. Luckily, wifi was restored late this morning.

Epic Books for Kids Update

Congratulations to the class for receiving another Epic Books for Kids reading badge. They are making excellent progress.

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday. Hopefully the rain will stay away.

In-School Support Update

As 8 parents have reached out to me, Friday morning I will be having 2 one-hour math sessions with students. Since there is availability for one more child to join the 8:30-9:30am session, if interested, please let me know.

Although children must enter the building at staggered times (I will text you today your child’s arrival time), they can be dismissed all at once. This is possible because I’ll walk students outside to be picked up.

At all times we must social distance by 2 meters. As many will be excited about being back in the building, please have a chat with your child about the importance of this rule.

When parents arrive, you’ll be ask questions about your son/daughter’s health and all children must sign in. Teachers are responsible for screening parents and for keeping an up-to-date log as to which students have been inside the building. Part of our safety protocol is that anyone entering a PEI school must now sign-in. This is required in the event of contact tracing.

The health questions parents will be asked are:

  • Has anyone in the household travelled outside of PEI in the last 14 days and are required to self-isolate? (This may eliminate students who have parents who are truckers.)
  • Does the child have any of the following symptoms: New or worsening cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, congestion, headache, muscle aches, unusual fatigue, acute loss of sense of smell or taste?
  • Have you or your child(ren) had close contact (face-to-face contact within 2 metres (6 feet) with someone who is ill with any of the above noted symptoms?
  • Have you or anyone in your household been in contact in the last 14 days with a person under investigation or confirmed to be a case of COVID-19?
  • Please note: If a parent answers yes to any of the above, the student cannot stay.

All the best,

Mrs. Callaghan

Hi Everyone,

The class is continuing to have success on IXL. As of this morning, children have answered 1471 answers! Such impressive learning!

In-School Support

As we continue with home learning, teachers now have the opportunity to offer students in-school support.

Beginning June 1st, teachers are able to offer face-to-face support at West Royalty. This is to assist students who may be experiencing difficulty with a particular skill. This support is strictly academic in nature.

For this week, my assigned time is Friday, June 5 from 10:00-11:00 am. During this hour, I’ll be offering instruction on 2-digit addition/subtraction with and without regrouping.

If your child would benefit from help, please text or call me as soon as possible. Attendance is absolutely voluntary.

Since everyone must adhere to social distancing protocols, a maximum of 4 students are able to be in a classroom at once. Students must arrive/depart at staggered times.

When dropping off your child, one parent must come into the building to answer the required pre-arrival health questions. Ms. MacLean will complete this questionnaire with you. Pick up times will need to be strictly followed, as staggered entry/exit times need to be scheduled.

Hand washing rules will be implemented while children are in the building.

Please note that this support does NOT replace any distance learning assignments. Children are expected to participate in learning until June 19th.

Please refer to the Public School Branch Health and Safety Guidelines for more information.

Have a wonderful Wednesday

May 26, 2020

Hi Everyone,

Late last week all WR parents received an email outlining the date/time and procedure to follow when collecting your child’s belonging.

As a reminder, I have copied the following content from Ms. MacLean’s email:

On Wednesday, May 27th, parents will be able to come to the school to retrieve their child’s belongings and to pick up second term report cards. We will do this by assigning parents of each grade level a time to come to the school, as we have to ensure we are meeting social distancing guidelines.

At this time, we will also be collecting any school items that your child may have at home, in particular classroom and library books! Please have these bagged, labeled with your child’s name and homeroom, and ready to hand off to our staff members or place in a bin.

Wednesday, May 27th
8:30-9:30 a.m. Kindergarten classes
9:30-10:30 a.m. Grade 1 classes
10:30-11:30 a.m. Grade 2 classes
11:30 a.m-12:30 p.m. Grade 3 classes
12:30-1:30 p.m. Grade 4 classes
1:30-2:30 p.m. Grade 5 classes
2:30-3:30 p.m. Grade 6 classes

If you have more than one child in the school, please pick up the belongings for all of your children at the same time (use whichever time suits you best).

In some instances, it is going to be very challenging to determine which sneakers belong to which child as many of them are not labeled. For those items we can’t match to a child, we will put them in a bin, and parents will need to pick out their child’s sneakers, etc.

What to do: When you arrive at the school, please park in the staff parking lot, and head into the school using the front doors. Only one person per family will be permitted to enter the school. You will then proceed down to the gym and find the sign for your child’s homeroom. Please ask your child which homeroom they are in (1A, 1B, 1C, etc.) as each homeroom will have a designated area in the gymnasium. You will then exit the gymnasium by the emergency exit at the back of the gym.

Please remember to practice social distancing. If there is someone ahead of you, you may have to wait your turn. There will only be 5 people permitted in the gym at a time.

IXL Success!

The children have received another certificate!

Keep up the excellent math thinking!

Library Books To Be Returned

I’ve received a list of borrowed books from Mrs. Smith. I plan to text message parents of those who have a book(s) to return. On Monday, when I cleaned out student desks, I did not come across any of the signed out books.

Wishing you an excellent Tuesday,

Mrs. Callaghan
