Hi Everyone,

Congratulations to 2A as I received notification from Epic Books for Kids that students have read 400 books in the past few weeks. This is a significant accomplishment!

Ms. Jay, our school counsellor, asked teachers to share the following link with parents. It contains helpful hints for supporting “at home” learning.

Supporting School Work at Home

Have a wonderful Friday.

Until next week,

Hi Everyone,

A great way to help children burn off energy or to take a movement break while learning is to visit GoNoodle. GoNoodle gives families access to 100s of movement and mindfulness videos. Children can engage in dance or exercise activities. It is worth exploring.

Another great option is KidzBop. This site offers kid-friendly music videos of popular songs. Each song is performed by children rather than the original artist. I have linked one below but tons can also be found on Youtube.

Have a happy Thursday,

Hi Everyone,

This week’s learning assignments have been uploaded onto Google Classroom.

The theme Ms. Whalen has chosen for this week is “Show care and love for the Earth.” Since Wednesday is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, students are encouraged to do kind acts that are good for our planet. Show your school spirit by sharing what your child does on the West Royalty School’s Facebook page.

This is a song to kick off the week.

Until tomorrow,

Mrs. Callaghan

Hi Everyone,

Today is the final day of our school’s “Do a Kind Act/Add a Little Kindness” week. Jann Arden, who is an accomplished Canadian singer, recently paired with some talented Ontario students to record this music video. Enjoy!

All the best,

Mrs. Callaghan

Try A Little Kindness

April 16, 2020

Hi Everyone,

Mrs. Zinck has posted another music class for students to enjoy. Children are encouraged to sing along and have some fun with her.

Several parents have mentioned that their children are especially emotional this week. It is a sad time for many as they are missing the routines of school, are feeling isolated at home/lonely because they can’t visit with friends/family members, and some are lacking motivation to complete “at home” learning assignments. This is normal. It’s ok. Emotions are big at the moment. Developmentally children often don’t have the words to articulate their thoughts. Instead you will see anger, refusals, tears, tiredness, arguments, frustration and boredom.

Although I don’t have any answers that will solve this, I am always available to chat with your child. Just ask. I’ve linked two read alouds I’m Happy-Sad Today and The Way I Feel that may allow your child to find ways to talk about how he/she is feeling. Listening to these stories together may be a way to start a conversation about what is happening and how it is affecting your child.

Until tomorrow,

Mrs. Callaghan

An Act of Kindness From Lucas

Hi Everyone,

Lucas Wang has a mommy goldfish that recently had 40 babies! They are growing quickly and need families to love them! Lucas would like to give a fish or two to any friend in 2A who would enjoy having a new pet. His father has also given permission for his contact information to be sent out in an email. So, please check your inbox for Mr. Wang’s contact information.

Many thanks to Lucas for his kindness.

All the best,

Mrs. Callaghan
